Roasted Dandelion Root - One of the most well known and most recognised wild flowers, dandelion is a member of the Asteraceae or daisy family. Its leaves are a nutrient rich bitter tonic and have diuretic actions whilst maintaining electrolyte balance. Similarly its roots are a bitter tonic, enhancing digestive and liver function, which can be of benefit for those with sluggish bowels, fat intolerance, tiredness and headaches. As it helps to open up elimination through the kidneys and liver, it takes the pressure off the skin as an elimination organ, supporting healthy clear skin.
Maca - A South American food, nutritive and probable adaptogen, maca is really most known for supporting healthy energy levels and for supporting a healthy reproductive system. It has a lovely malt like flavour which lends itself perfectly to the bitterness of the herbs in the blend. We use Seleno Health maca as really it's the best in the business.
Roasted Chicory Root - Another member of the daisy family, with pretty blue flowers, chicory is oft used as animal fodder here in New Zealand and is sometimes called blue dandelion. It does have similar attributes to dandelion and has a rich flavour very reminiscent of coffee.
Carob - A member of the Fabaceae or legume family, carob has a very long history of use, dating back 4000 years. It has a chocolate like taste but it is sweeter, has a better mineral profile, contains more fibre and soothes and promotes a healthy gut. It also will grow in many different places around the world, requires little water and produces a huge amount of pods. Which is a bit of a bonus in the world in which we live.
Burdock - Another member of the Asteraceae or daisy family, burdock root is a favourite of many across Western and Eastern medicine paradigms. High in soluble fibre and bitter components, burdock, like dandelion is cleansing, detoxifying and soothing. Perfect for supporting healthy detoxification through the liver, healthy gut flora and helping to keep the skin healthy.
Suma - Known as Brazilian ginseng (although it is not a member of the ginseng family) suma root is known as para toda (which means "for all things") by the Amazonian people. Which makes sense as it is thought to be a highly nutritive adaptogen, to support healthy mood and energy and hormonal health. Which is all things I reckon.
Cordyceps - An adaptogen, cordyceps enhances resilience to stress. It is also renowned for supporting a healthy energy cycle, physical stamina and recovery and also for supporting healthy lungs and a healthy immune system. A perfect addition to a morning brew.
Mesquite - Another member of the Fabaceae family, like carob, mesquite pods are sweet and nourishing and give a caramel like taste
Star Anise and Cinnamon - A good combo of spices that are at once stimulating but also somehow heady and calming.
